Severe ‘TWIN’ Tropical Cyclones Judy and Kevin make land fall in Vanuatu March 2023

They were a pair of intense tropical cyclones that make landfall on the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu within 48 hours of each other. 
They were the fourth and fifth named storms of the 2022-2023 South Pacific cyclone season respectively, as well as the second and third severe tropical cyclones of the season.
Vanuatu was pounded by powerful winds and destructive seas.  Almost the entire population of Vanuatu, an estimated 251,319 people ( 80%) , were affected by the impact of the twin Tropical Cyclones (TC) Judy & Kevin.

We ask you to take a moment to think about loosing everything: 
you have lost your roof so you have no catchment to collect water,
you have no resources to rebuild your home, your garden is flattened and you have no food to put on the table.
Life can be very challenging, but the people of Vanuatu are extremely resilient!  And we thank our supporters and funders who help us to help the people of Vanuatu.  ' Tank yu Tumas'

Paama Island
​suffered major damaged, were struggling to find safe drinking water

Water, Sanitation & Health (WASH)

Safe drinking-water, sanitation and hygiene are crucial to human health and well-being. Safe WASH is not only a prerequisite to health, but contributes to livelihoods, school attendance and dignity. It helps to create resilient communities living in healthy environments.
In response to the damaged caused by the twin cyclones Judy & Kevin, Pacific Pathways will be implementing sustainable water solutions. To provide access to a reliable and sustainable water supply and safe drinking water for the people of Paama, resulting in improved sanitation and hygiene.
Working with the Vanuatu Department of Water Resources
we will focused on : 
Water catchments with 10,000 litre water catchments for 8 communities across Paama and a
Gravity system with 10,000 litre water catchments for Lulep a remote community on the east coast of Paama.
This project was made possible with support from a grant funding partnership with : 
Ministry of Foreign Affairs NZ (Disaster Response Partnership) & Rotary NZ WCS. 

Futuna Island
To help with the recovery Pacific Pathways will fund the rebuild of their main Fish Market House

Futuna, is a small island which suffered major damage by the twin cyclones

We were deeply saddened as we tracked the movement of the cyclones across Futuna Island, a small island only 11m2 in south Vanuatu.  We have friends from this island and instantly realised they would need help, so we contacted the Area Administrator to ask what help was needed.
Futuna Area Council, acknowledged that their immediate needs (food, water and medical resources) were being delivered by the larger NGO’s . In response the community asked for help to repair the Fish Market House and solar panels which run the deep freeze.
The Fish Market House is central to the community. 
​The people of Futuna are known as the ‘People of the Sea’, because of their fishing expertise. They spend almost everyday fishing in their boats, canoes or using traditional fishing techniques. They recognise the importance of fish as a good source of protein for the family diet and half of their income comes from their fishing activities.
