With the generous donations from the schools in Christchurch we have facilitated the relocation of recycled school resources from New Zealand to Vanuatu. It’s hoped that these learning resources will aid in increasing literacy and numeracy levels at the primary level in Vanuatu, while reducing landfill in New Zealand.
Preschools in Vanuatu do not receive any funding from the Government, they are set up and supported by the communities. In most cases this is very difficult financially, as a result most kidny's have few, if any resources. (Kindy is the Bislama word for kindergarten)
How can you help ?
Fill a 'Kit for a Kindy' A plastic container with educational resources to help the kindergartens of Vanuatu . Ask for the 'Wish List' of items that would be helpful, for example: blocks, jigsaws, crayons, paints, shapes, paper, crayons, wooden toys, children story books, balls, skipping ropes, flip cards.
Many schools in Christchurch are upgrading, some are merging and sadly some schools are closing. As a result schools have resources that are surplus to their requirements. Pacific Pathways is partnering with the Vanuatu Ministry of Education to distribute these desks and chairs.
Pathways GOING FORWARD As collaborations and partnerships develop with the communities we are working with, we will be focusing on some specific community projects
LIBRARIES / READING ROOMS
Many of the remote schools do not have a library or even a reading room, will be focusing on this in 2016
CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP
Collaboration and partnerships are very important to us. We are interested to meet Schools and Businesses who may be interested in helping schools and kindergartens with renovations, building new facilities or supporting a school or kindy. We would love to hear from you.
